HOMESICK.png

Sam was the girl most likely to go places. But she didn’t. After a suicide attempt, she’s virtually under house arrest back in her hometown of Wallerwarang. Her mother feels guilty. Her grandmother doesn’t believe in ‘all this depression business’. And her recently outed ex- boyfriend is, annoyingly, the only person she feels she can talk to honestly. A box of home videos reveal to Sam her mother's life before her: forcing Sam to, once again, consider her worth.

Homesick examines the stigma around mental health, a generational shift in expectations on women, and – crucially – the value of human connection.

This production integrates video projection (for Sam’s vintage home videos), and features a live Axolotl on stage.

This production will play at the Old 505 in Newtown.
